Department of Library and Information Studies

Thomas Badgett

How are you a member of the UNCG LIS family?

I am a MLIS student.

Tell us about the accomplishments you are most proud of in terms of your academic, professional accomplishments, etc. (brag points for us to use in other words)

I made 1260 on the GRE after being out of school more than 25 years and am in high demand as a Media Assistant in the county I work in.

Give us a brief bio of yourself including your educational and professional background.

I am an Air Force brat, born in Nebraska and raised in Spain, Nebraska, Japaqn, Massachusetts, and North Cqrolina. Graduated as a University Scholar (Summa Cum Laude) from Western Carolina University with a BSEd in Educationqal Media (LS/AV). I was a restaurant general manager and co-manager for 21 years and decided in was time to make a career change and get into the field I majored in at college.

Do you have a favorite saying or motto you live by? If not, please give us a concise one or two sentence blurb.

"Don't Tell Me, Show Me!!!" or "Life Is What You Make It!!!"

What role does your education and/or professional position play in applying library and information studies for the benefit of others and society in general?

It is what I studied at both collegiate levels and is complemented by my service industry career background. I have always enjoyed learning things and explaining them to others, so it seems like a good fit to me.

Favorite food and drink:

German food and milk.

Favorite song or musical group:

The End (by Earl Grant) and Jan & Dean.

Favorite movie or television show:

The Right Stuff and Twelve O'Clock High.

One person you would choose to be marooned on a desert island with....

Mary Ann!!!!

Anything else you would like to say to the rest of the UNCG LIS community on our Web site?

Howdy!
