Professional Mentoring

The UNCG LIS Professional Mentoring program pairs new and continuing LIS students with professionals in the library and information studies fields. Created to provide students with a professional perspective on their studies as well as a firsthand look at a career in their field, the mentoring program pairs students with appropriate mentors based on location, type of library, and specialty.

Beginning in spring 2012, new students will be paired with a professional mentor. Mentors and students are required to schedule one meeting (in person or via videoconference, such as Skype) per semester, and one meeting is recommended for every subsequent semester.

Also, continuing LIS students will have the opportunity to be paired with a professional mentor during the spring semester. Current LIS students are invited to participate by filling out this form.

Mentors will be selected from several organizations, including LISAA (the UNCG LIS Alumni Association), Metrolina Library Association (MLA), and the local community. Mentors will be provided with training and suggestions for interaction with students. If you are interested in becoming a professional mentor, please fill out this form.
