The Department of Library and Information Studies

Students

The American Library Association accredits the UNCG MLIS program with an enrollment of more than 250 students who study with us either at the Greensboro or Charlotte campuses taking face-to-face, online, or blended courses. Our students represent a diverse community of interdisciplinary learners engaged in hands-on research and academic study. Learn more about student research and accomplishments in Student News.

Our program encourages diversity through our Academic and Cultural Enrichment Scholars (ACE Scholars) program, which is now in its second cohort, and our iLEAD Fellows program, which recruits international students to work as graduate assistants. Graduate assistants are also selected each academic year based on scholarship and professional experience.

Our students comprise a wide variety of academic backgrounds, seeking to learn more about the scholarly and professional aspects of librarianship and information studies. Students elect to participate in the Library and Information Studies Student Association (LISSA), the student chapter of ALA at UNCG, where they can take part in professional development workshops, network with fellow students, and librarians, have leadership opportunities, and enjoy fun social events.
