Title: Economics, Education and Information Needs: Critical Thinking and Effective Teaching
Abstract:
The current global economic crisis has emphasized the urgency of understanding economic and financial matters. In higher education this is often learned in the introductory undergraduate economics class. This Economics 100 class typically introduces students to neoclassic economic theories; however, socioeconomic conditions and new scholarship on economics provide the opportunity to teach introductory economics in a different way. This presentation will cover new thinking on teaching introductory economics beginning with a brief overview of traditional content, and describe the information needs of instructors and students of such a course.
