LIS Career Night and Research Presentation November 1, 2007

The LIS Department is proud to announce that on Thursday November 1st there will be a Career Night televised at all three campuses. Speakers include Andrea Brooks from UNCG Career Services giving resume and interview advice. Following, resume tips there will be a roundtable discussion with distinguished library professionals, including UNCG Librarian, Rosann Bazirjian. This event will take place via teleconference between the three campuses.

Schedule of Events:

5:00-5:30 Reception, snacks
5:30-6:00 Andrea Brooks from UNCG Career Services will speak about resume writing and interviewing followed by Q and A
6:00-7:00 Round Table Discussion on the following topics:

  • How I got to be where I am now
  • What it is like working in my current position and general career path
  • Advice for emerging library and information professionals
  • Future predictions and trends of the field
  • Anything the panelist would like to add
  • Speakers include: in Charlotte: Joyce Weaver (Special), Cathy Dupre, Christine Tran (Academic), Jennifer Taylor (Special), LaJuan Pringle (Public)
    Asheville: Kathleen Phillips (Public), Beth McDonough (Academic) Greenbsoro: Rosann Bazirjian (Academic), Sue Spencer (School Media)

    7:00-7:30 Question and Answers
    7:30-7:50: Research Presentation by LIS faculty member or overview of current/recent faculty research (TBD)
    7:50-8:20: Grant Writing Tips and LIS research goals for the year (School of Ed Director of Research Dr. Julia Jackson-Newsom; Dr. Anthony Chow)
    8:20-8:30: Q & A
    Greensboro’s tele-learning classroom is located in Stone, room 186, Charlotte’s tele-learning room is Fretwell, 126, and Asheville’s tele-learning room is 129 Robinson Hall (Steelcase).
