LIS 665 - Library Services for Young People
COURSE PROSPECTUS

Prerequisites/Corequisites:
None.

Course Description:

The planning, evaluation and administration of programs and services designed to meet the needs of individuals and groups of children and adolescents. Current issues. Public library emphasis. (3 s.h.)

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course students will be able:

  • To examine the competencies identified by the American Library Association and North Carolina for adequate service to children and young adults in public libraries.
  • To identify developmental characteristics of children and young adults and how such relate to library service to youth.
  • To develop competencies in developing, observing, comparing, promoting and evaluating library services to youth in various settings and situations.
  • To gain familiarity with programming activities, marketing and architectural elements suitable for preschoolers, elementary age children, and young adults.
  • To identify and discuss current issues and trends in youth services and their relationship to librarianship.

Content Assignments.
Program Proposal.
Final Cumulative Examination.
