Tuition and Fees

subject to change).
Please Note: If you’re registering as a Charlotte and/or Distance Education student
you will not be eligible to receive some student services offered to Greensboro students.
Funding for student services (which includes access to the Student Health Center and
Student Recreation Center) are funded by student fees. And some of the student fees are
only charged to students in the Greensboro program.

Incoming students may apply for any departmental funding (Assistantships, Fellowships,
Scholarships, or other Awards). Returning students may apply for any besides the M.
Sangster Parrot Fellowship.
Graduate Assistantships
Please fill out the application form if you would like to be considered for an assistant ship.
Assistantships are available through The Graduate School upon recommendation of the department. Prospective students who wish to be considered for an award should indicate such an interest on the admission application AND you must fill out the application above. Currently enrolled students are also eligible to apply using the above application. For further details, please contact t_vang@uncg.edu.
Service assistantships involve 10-20 hours of research, administrative, and or general departmental assistance per week. Application forms for assistantships are filed with the LIS Department. Awards are typically for one year, and may be renewed. Stipends vary by program, level of degree, assigned responsibility, and workload. Greensboro Graduate Scholars, nominated by their departments and selected by The Graduate School, receive, in addition to the normal assistantships, a stipend may be awarded.
Please complete and submit a graduate assistantship application for assistantships. Applicants must have been admitted to the University unconditionally and have maintained a B (3.0) average. Service hours may not exceed 20 hours per week in total.

Students interested in being considered for a departmental scholarship should check the qualifications for each award to make sure they are eligible, and send a letter of interest to the Director of Graduate Study. The letter of interest should highlight the student’s merits and how these fit with the scholarship. Submit letters by email to Dr. Julie Hersberger jahersbe@uncg.edu.
The Mary Frances Kennon Johnson Scholarship

To be awarded annually to a student or students majoring in the field of Library Education/Instructional Media.
The M. Sangster Parrott Fellowship

A fellowship for a student entering the Master of Library and Information Studies degree program at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The Helen Thayer Bowling Scholarship

The scholarship will benefit needy and deserving students of library science who (1) demonstrate financial need and (2) declare an interest in pursuing a course of study in library science.
The Dr. Marilyn L. Miller Scholarship

Recipients of this award shall be worthy and deserving students enrolled in a degree program offered through the Department of Library and Information Studies. Provided funds are available, this award may be renewed for one (1) additional year. The amount of future award may vary, depending on the status of the fund. The intent is that an annual award be made whenever possible.

The Academic and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Scholars Program program is a joint effort between the University Libraries and the LIS Department. The goal of the scholarship program is to recruit students from underrepresented ethnic minority groups into the profession.

The Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS) at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications from international students to its iLEAD Fellows Program. An iLEAD Fellow will be an international student taking the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) Program, supported by an International Graduate Assistantship (IGA) with tuition waivers. Two iLEAD Fellows will be selected from the new incoming international students, starting in Fall 2011, on the basis of demonstrated academic ability, evidence of commitment to enhancing library and information access and development in their home country, and financial need.
