Approved by the LIS Faculty Council 8/18/2010, endorsed by the LIS Advisory Committee 8/27/2010, revised 11/19/2010.

Introduction

The UNCG Department of Library and Information Studies (LIS) has undertaken an informed and collaborative process to develop its strategic plan for the years 2010 to 2015.  This five-year plan was based on qualitative and quantitative data gathered during the last three years from students, alumni, instructors and the local professional community, and an environmental scan.  It was developed by the LIS Faculty Council, including student representatives, and in consultation with the LIS Advisory Committee.  The UNCG LIS Strategic 2010-15 was approved on August 27, 2010 after a yearlong development process.

LIS is looking forward to continuing to provide the highest quality education in its programs, to share its scholarship with the global community, and to engage with our communities in order to create capacity and enhance professional practice.  The 2010-15 strategic plan charts our path to advancing our leadership and social commitment through research, teaching and service.  It begins with our vision, which focuses on our evolving direction.  This long-term view of LIS is complemented by our mission, which states our fundamental purpose, that is, what we do, for whom, and how and why we do it.

Vision

An intellectually rich, community-centered program leading future-oriented library and information education, innovation, and service.
